Guitar
Eric Verellen's musical journey began at the age of 7, influenced by his family's musical legacy. He initially honed his skills through classical guitar lessons, laying a strong foundation. As he matured, his musical interests evolved, gravitating towards the dynamic world of rock music. His teenage years were a period of self-discovery, where he explored a range of styles, from acoustic finger-style picking to electric lead guitar. Inspired by a diverse array of musicians and musical genres, he embarked on a journey to emulate his idols while carving out a unique style of his own.
Eric attended Northern Arizona University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with a minor in literature. He focused on writing songs and collaborative efforts during college and quickly began playing in his first band. After several years and several different projects, he became a founding member of his current band, Dusty Rug. Over the last few years, Eric has been a songwriter, the primary guitarist with his own band, and a bassist on the side for country artist Red McAdam. Between the two projects, he has toured extensively, playing hundreds of shows and recording four full-length albums.
Eric employs a teaching philosophy tailored to all aspects of a performing musician and seeks to provide students with a musical foundation for creative expression. This includes focusing on practical music theory, songwriting, collaboration with other musicians, and technical proficiency. Additionally, he emphasizes the importance of each student's musical interests and can tailor a curriculum around various styles and genres. Based on his personal experience, Eric can also offer advice on performing, recording, and a wide range of equipment, including guitars, amps, and pedals.
