Piano, Upright Bass, Guitar
Ben is a passionate multi-instrumentalist and educator who began studying classical piano at the age of 6 under Dr. Gravis Sung, a PhD graduate from the University of Michigan. Their training emphasized technique, expression, and musicality, with performance experience in hymns and church music at various events. They also have a background in classical guitar and performed on double bass with the Richmond Youth Symphony Orchestra throughout high school. Currently, they are exploring jazz guitar while continuing to build on their classical piano foundation.
Ben decided to start teaching because they wanted to create the kind of learning experience they never had. Ben studied under the same teacher for 13 years, and while they're grateful for the foundation it gave them, the approach wasn’t always supportive or effective. That experience pushed Ben to teach differently, with more patience, encouragement, and understanding. Ben wants their students to feel heard, motivated, and excited to learn, not pressured or discouraged. Teaching became Ben's way of breaking that cycle and building something better for the next generation of musicians.
